CleanHPA

The Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis is a critical system involved in regulating the body's response to stress, maintaining energy levels, and coordinating various physiological processes. Nurturing a CleanHPA involves understanding the key mechanisms of HPA axis function, exploring testing options to assess its balance, and implementing strategies to support optimal HPA axis function and overall well-being.

Why is it important to have CleanHPA?

  • Stress Response: The HPA axis plays a central role in the body's stress response by regulating the release of stress hormones, including cortisol. Understanding the intricate interplay between the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and adrenal glands helps in managing stress and maintaining HPA axis balance.

  • Cortisol Regulation: Cortisol is a crucial hormone involved in various bodily functions, including metabolism, immune response, and stress adaptation. Balancing cortisol levels and its diurnal rhythm is vital for overall health.

How does the Cleanbody Method support CleanHPA?

There are three steps in the Cleanbody Method, and all of the steps support CleanHPA.

STEP 1: EVALUATE

It is important for you to evaluate your HPA health on a yearly basis with your healthcare practitioner. In our CleanSTART program, we will support you in investigating your HPA health using lab tests such as:

  • Cortisol Testing: Cortisol testing measures cortisol levels in the body at different times of the day to assess the diurnal rhythm and overall HPA axis balance. If you are working with our Cleanbody Team, we may discuss ordering cortisol testing to understand your HPA axis function.

STEP 2: OPTIMIZE

In Step 2 of the Cleanbody Method, we support you in optimizing your Cleanbody Pillars. The following Cleanbody Pillars support CleanHPA:

  • CleanMIND: Implementing effective stress management techniques, such as mindfulness, meditation, deep breathing exercises, and engaging in activities that promote relaxation, can help balance the HPA axis and reduce the impact of chronic stress on the body.

  • CleanROUTINE: Prioritizing sufficient and restful sleep is essential for HPA axis balance. Establishing a consistent sleep routine, creating a sleep-friendly environment, and adopting relaxation practices before bed can support optimal sleep patterns.

  • CleanFIT: Engaging in regular physical activity, including both aerobic exercise and strength training, can help regulate the HPA axis and improve stress resilience. However, it's important to avoid excessive exercise that may contribute to additional stress on the body.

  • CleanFOOD: Consuming a balanced diet that includes whole foods, nutrient-dense meals, and adequate protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates can provide the necessary building blocks for optimal HPA axis function. Additionally, supporting gut health through probiotics and a fiber-rich diet can positively influence the HPA axis.

STEP 3 SUPPORT

In Step 3, we will explore additional supplements and treatments that can provide support in nurturing CleanHPA, if needed. While a balanced diet and lifestyle are key, certain circumstances may benefit from additional interventions, including nutritional supplements, herbs and homeopathy, advanced nutrition plans, supportive treatments, and compounded medications when available for use.
