Nature’s "Antibiotic": Dr. Fong's Cold/Flu-Buster Recipe

By Diane Angela Fong, ND

Sometimes it starts as a tickle in your throat or a slight runny nose.... it's what you dread every cold & flu season - that "feeling" you get when you KNOW that you are coming down with something. Before you panic and chug gallons of orange juice or down a bottle of Nyquil, give this recipe a try! It uses simple ingredients that almost everyone will have in their kitchens. Make a fresh mixture at the first sign of illness, or better yet, make a whole batch and keep it on-hand for the next 6 months!

RECIPE

1 TBSP Raw Organic Honey Or Manuka Honey

(probiotic, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, expectorant, and anti-inflammatory)

1 Crushed Organic Garlic Clove

(antibacterial/antifungal)

¼ TSP Raw, Organic Ginger

(antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory)

¼ TSP Cayenne Pepper

(acts as a catalyst to increase the medicinal action of the mixture, anti-inflammatory)

1 TBSP Apple Cider Vinegar

(antibacterial, antiviral)

DIRECTIONS

Dissolve the cayenne pepper in the apple cider vinegar, then add the honey, crushed garlic and ginger. Alternatively, depending on taste and what you have in your kitchen, you can leave out the apple cider vinegar and the ginger and just mix the honey, garlic, and cayenne pepper together.

Take 1 tbsp of the mixture at the first sign of sickness and continue taking 1 tbsp 2 – 3 times daily until symptoms resolve. Seek medical attention if symptoms get worse or do not improve or resolve in a couple of days. Before using this medicinal mixture, consult with Dr. Fong or your doctor if you are taking medication or have any medical conditions.

Please note: if you will be making a mixture and keeping it in your refrigerator, do not add the garlic and ginger. Add fresh garlic and ginger with each use.
